About Jay
MUSICAL JOURNEY
From Charleston, South Carolina, Jay Wood began his musical journey with voice training at a young age and the guitar at age 16. He was influenced by bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, and Riverside.
His passion for blending progressive rock, metal, and ambient sounds led to the creation of Reformation, an instrumental post-rock project.
Jay writes and records music that is energetic, ambient, and driving instrumental tracks. Inspired by bands like If These Trees Could Talk, Glasgow Coma Scale, and hubris.
CURRENTLY
Jay remains dedicated to his music, constantly writing and recording. His second EP, “A New Day,” featuring six tracks, was released in June 2021, followed by his third EP, “Crop Circles,” in February 2023 and “The Light Album” in December 2023.
“Backyard Roller Coaster” debuts June 21, 2024!
As a solo musician, Jay faces challenges but overcomes them by continuously learning new techniques and embracing technology. His advice to aspiring musicians is to be patient, open-minded, and allow their music to evolve naturally.
Jay also draws inspiration for song titles from literature and maintains a focus on creating epic, emotionally resonant compositions.
JAY’S PERSONAL JOURNEY
Starting in his early 20s, Jay developed a dependency on drugs and alcohol that lasted nearly 25 years. After hitting rock bottom, he realized he needed to make a drastic change and sought help.
With the support of his wife, Nikki, and following 90 days of rehab, Jay redirected his energy into writing and recording music. One year into his sobriety, Reformation was officially born.
Beyond music, he actively speaks, volunteers, and shares his experiences with others struggling with addiction, hoping to inspire and support those in need just as others have helped him.
Addiction is a serious issue we shouldn’t take lightly. If you or anyone is struggling with addiction, please reach out for help. As Jay learned early in recovery, there are people who have suffered as he had and want to help. Please contact your local addiction center for help. Addicts are NOT alone.
