  • Writer's block occurs more frequently without other musicians to provide influence. I will take this time to listen to my influences and other music to gain inspiration on how to move forward in the creative process.

  • Patience. As musicians, we sometimes feel the need to continuously write new music and that can become a trap of repeating or getting into a rut of the same progressions. I find that educating myself on new techniques and technology helps in the creative process.

    One benefit I have is that this is not my primary source of income, so there is no sense of urgency. I can take as much time as I need to write, record and produce my music. Don't quit your day job! Yet...

  • Learn what works and what doesn't work. I also have to be open minded that I am not limited to a particular sound or genre. I can evolve as my tastes and interests change.

    I also have to embrace the technology advances that are advancing every day. I hear a lot of musicians say that they won't do this or that because it's not music. In my opinion, if it sounds good to you and you're not stealing from anyone, it's ok to utilize these innovations that are literally (yes, literally) at our finger tips.

  • The only theme I can think of is epic. I want to build my songs up, have a small interlude and then finality. Kind of like a very short sonic movie.

  • I read a lot of inspirational literature and pull titles from what jumps out to me. I would say 90% of the song titles come alive this way.
